Introduction

Weight lifting is a very important and rewarding form of exercise.  As the name implies, weight lifting is an activity where a person lifts various weights and stresses specific muscles in order to build strength and endurance.

Although there are many different exercises, ideologies and programs behind weight lifting, the general concept is pretty basic.  People lift heavy objects in specific ways in order to stimulate muscles growth.  When people lift weights, they use a certain muscle and when this is done frequently, the fibers in the muscles will tear.  Their bodies then uses protein to repairs these micro-tears and build more muscle fiber.  Over a continual period of exercising, the muscle will become considerably stronger and be able to lift more weight.
